Somerset Community Foundation

Somerset is a county of great diversity, from the hills of Exmoor to the lowlands of the Levels. Scratch beneath the surface and you find that our communities are also highly diverse, many of us enjoying relative affluence alongside those facing real deprivation.
 
The Somerset Community Foundation gives local people and businesses a simple way to support those most in need on our doorstep. We are the only charity in Somerset solely for Somerset.
 
Since we started in 2002 we have distributed over £2million to over 450 projects. Children, young families, the disabled, the homeless, the elderly and many more have all benefitted from our small grants throughout the county.
 
The success of the Foundation is increasingly based upon a growing number of local people, businesses and trusts working together for Somerset. Our goal over the next two years is to build our endowment fund up to £2million to create a sustainable and independent source of financial support to local communities for the long-term.
 
The Government is supporting our ambition by adding 50% to new donations, over and above Gift Aid. At a time when few of us can escape the effects of the credit crunch, I hope you will agree that this is a very welcome initiative.

On the grants side the Foundation runs a variety of grant-aid programmes and will be able to advise you on which grant programme fits your needs or recommend an alternative funder if the project falls outside the Community Foundation's criteria.
