Leaping Lizards! Bridgwater will “stick up its chin and grin and sing ‘Tomorrow! Tomorrow!’” when Somerstage performs Annie JR.

Annie JR. follows the story of an orphan named Annie living a “hard-knock life” at The New York City Municipal Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie dreams of being reunited with her parents and takes action to find them. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Bridgwater Bolt 10k 2020

This is a predominantly flat route through the villages of Chilton Trinity and Wembdon with a nice mix of urban and country scenery - just a couple of hills to contend with! Beautiful views of the Quantock Hills and Somerset Levels add to the attraction of this exciting race.

We expect entries to sell out as per the past few years so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Runners of all abilities are welcome at the event which starts at 10.00am at Trinity Sports & Leisure, where you will have use of the changing rooms, showers, toilets, swimming pool and cafe.

An event for the whole family

We know it can seem a long time for spectators to wait, especially the youngest members of the family, so we will have activities for all ages including our popular 1k fun run (£2.50 online entry includes medal and free swim) and refreshments. Or why not sit back and relax with a hot drink and snack in our poolside cafe.

St Margaret’s Hospice Open Gardens

This stunning garden situated on the edge of the Levels was lovingly developed from paddocks and now contains an interesting collection of specimen and orchard trees forming an inspiring arboretum, blossoming beautifully during spring. The garden is also planted with a variety of bulbs including hellebores, camellias, azaleas and japonica.

Refreshments are included and dogs are welcome provided they are on leads.  Entry Fee: £5.00 including refreshments.

Whatever Happened to The Great Enlightenment

Somerset author, Justin Newland, will be giving a talk entitled Whatever Happened to The Great Enlightenment.

He’ll explore the secret history of the Great Enlightenment, that seething cauldron of ideas, and how this event that shaped the modern world. He’ll also reveal how this period of history inspired his latest novel, The Coronation.

Author Bio:

Justin writes secret histories in which real events and historical personages are guided and motivated by numinous forces, that is, “history with a supernatural twist.”

His other novels are: The Genes of Isis and The Old Dragon’s Head.

He gives library talks, does book signings and appears on radio and in literary festivals. A Doctorate in Mathematics, he lives with his partner in plain sight of the Mendip Hills.

Move It May 2020

Choose your distance and get sponsored to run, cycle or swim for Wessex Cancer Trust this May!

Whether you choose to tackle 5km or 500km, it’s all about getting active and moving more in May. It’s completely up to you how you decide to move it! So whether you’re a dancing queen or tai chi makes you happy, there are loads of ways to get moving and raise money for local families affected by cancer.

Raising just £100 could pay for a month’s supply of the products needed to provide the complementary therapies that we offer in our Cancer Support Centres. Raising £400 could fund a 10 session one to one support package, tailored to the individual, to help manage the emotional impact of cancer.

Sun 30 AugustJock Taylor’s Sidecar at Classic TT Auction

Jock “The Flying Scotsman” Taylor’s World Championship and TT winning short chassis Fowler Yamaha sidecar entered into the Charterhouse classic, race and vintage motorcycle auction being held on the Isle of Man at this year’s Classic TT in August is expected to sell for £200,000-£250,000.  Also with the sidecar are a number of important memorabilia items.
